Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India

📍 DG Shipping–Approved Medical Examiners

Hoon Marine Medicals is officially approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Government of India, for conducting comprehensive medical examinations for Indian and foreign seafarers under the provisions of:

  • The Maritime Labour Convention (MLC 2006)
  • ILO/WHO Seafarer Medical Examination Standards
  • DG Shipping Medical Examination Guidelines (Annex IV & Annex V)

Our DGS-approved medical examiners are authorized to conduct the following categories of examinations:

  • Pre-Employment Medical Examinations (PEME): For seafarers joining vessels under Indian or foreign flags.
  • Revalidation / Periodic Medicals: For serving seafarers undergoing renewal of medical fitness certificates.
  • Pre-Sea Training Medicals: For candidates joining DG Shipping–approved maritime training institutes.
  • Post-Illness or Post-Injury Fitness Assessments: To determine return-to-duty fitness after medical leave or accident.
  • Special Examinations: As per Annex IV & Annex V of DGS Circulars covering medical standards for various ranks and shipboard duties.
  • Other medical evaluations: For near-coastal voyages, harbor crafts, and medicals for various shipping company requirements.

All reports are generated using official DGS formats and are uploaded through authorized DG Shipping online systems, ensuring authenticity and global acceptance under MLC 2006.

NABL Accreditation

Our diagnostic laboratory holds NABL Accreditation (Entry Level) from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) under the Quality Council of India (QCI).

This accreditation covers a defined scope of laboratory services, including biochemistry, hematology, and urine analysis, ensuring:

  • Accuracy and traceability of every test result
  • External Quality Assurance participation (EQAS)
  • Documented procedures for sample collection, calibration, and reporting

Hoon Marine Medicals (under Om Sai Industries) is registered under the West Bengal Clinical Establishments (Registration, Regulation, and Transparency) Act, approved by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal.

This registration ensures:

Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) Authorization

Our Radiology and X-Ray Unit operates under authorization from the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in accordance with AERB (Atomic Energy Regulatory Board) safety regulations.

All radiological operations comply with:

  • Lead shielding and radiation exposure control standards
  • Regular inspection and calibration of X-ray equipment

Our Ultrasound (USG) facility is licensed under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PCPNDT) Act, authorized by the Health Department, Government of West Bengal.

All sonographic investigations are conducted by qualified Consultant Sonologists and Radiologists, maintaining strict adherence to:

  • PNDT regulatory requirements
  • Ethical and statutory standards for all diagnostic imaging
  • Proper record maintenance and audit compliance

West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) – Consent to Operate

Hoon Marine Medicals has obtained Consent to Operate (CTO) for its healthcare establishment from the West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) under Sections 25 & 26 of the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981.

This consent confirms that our facility meets all environmental and biomedical waste management standards, including:

  • Authorized disposal of biomedical waste through approved Common Bio-medical Waste Treatment Facilities (CBWTFs).
  • Safe segregation, storage, and disposal of clinical waste.
  • Regular compliance reporting to WBPCB.

Offshore Medical Certification – OEUK (formerly OGUK)

We conduct Offshore Energies UK (OEUK)–standard offshore medicals for personnel employed in oil, gas, and energy sectors.

These assessments cover:

  • General physical examination
  • Vision and hearing (audiometry) testing
  • Lung function (spirometry) testing
  • Laboratory investigations as per OEUK protocol
  • Comprehensive assessment for offshore environmental suitability
